From September 13th to 15th, 2024, the annual festival “Japanese Autumn” took place on the grounds of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, bringing together many fans of Japanese culture, arts, and martial arts.
The Kyiv Kendo Federation, once again demonstrating its dedication to Japanese cultural heritage, actively participated in the event by presenting a Kendo demonstration and a master class for the festival guests.
Kyiv Kendo Federation Demonstration
On the festival stage, members of the Kyiv Kendo Federation showcased the art of Kendo, which combines philosophy, spiritual growth, and fencing skills. Visitors had the opportunity to witness basic techniques (kihon and waza) and free sparring – jigeiko, as well as learn about the core principles of Kendo — the way of the sword, which fosters discipline, focus, and harmony of body and mind.
Master Class for Everyone
As part of the festival, members of the Kyiv Kendo Federation also conducted open training sessions, where anyone interested could try their hand at Kendo. This activity attracted lively interest from visitors of all ages. The instructors of the Kyiv Kendo Federation thoroughly explained the basic techniques and gave participants the chance to experience the spirit of this martial art.
Popularizing Kendo in Ukraine
The Kyiv Kendo Federation continues its efforts to popularize Japanese martial arts in Ukraine and attract new participants to the practice. The performance at the “Japanese Autumn” festival is an important step on this path, as we strive to share with Ukrainians not only the physical aspects of Kendo but also its deep philosophy and spiritual growth.
